If the coat is still soft and supple, and isn’t too dry, we can make suggestions on the best way to update your fur for a modern look. If you shorten your coat and there is fur remaining, we can also use this to make smaller items for you.
The best type of fur coat restyling is done on mink fur, since mink is often purchased new, can last over 50 years with care, and is very lightweight and easy to manipulate. Mink also makes a great lining for fabric and wool coats. A good mink coat in prime condition has limitless restyling options. Fox also makes a great fur for restyling, because a jacket can be transformed into a dramatic capelet, and fox makes a great trim on other garments.
Sable is not restyled very often, because sable is often very classically and conservatively cut to begin with. Chinchilla is another type of fur that is not often restyled, due to the fragile nature of chinchilla fur. Sheared beaver is rarely used as a coat lining due to the weight, but it can be restyled into vests and bags nicely.
